July 1st to 22nd 2018

A holiday in Austria for young people with a German Language Course, Culture, Fun & Adventure organized by the “Austrian Chinese Youth Culture Organization (ACYCO) and the “Development, Education & Study Consulting (DESC)

Period: Sunday, July 1st to Sunday 22nd July 2018
Arrival:
Sunday, July 1st, 2018 (transfers by DESC from the Vienna International Airport from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
Departure: Sunday, July 22nd 2018, Vienna International Airport (the transfer to the airport will arrive at 10:00 a.m.)

Visa: Normal tourists’ visa; for further information, please, check the English HP of the Austrian Embassy in Beijing or for the SAR Hong Kong the Austrian Consulate for visa – issues.

Visa applications should be made well in advance because visa application procedures may require more than 6 weeks. Austrian Embassies ask an invitation letter, which will be furnished by DESC. Students can obtain such documentation from DESC after having paid the down payment. It is the student’s responsibility to apply and obtain a visa in time.

Target group: Students in the age of 15 to 21

Number of participants: max 20, min 10

Objectives: The participants will pass an unforgettable holyday in the Austrian mountains with language studies, sports and entertainment and a splendid sojourn in Vienna. At the same time they will acquire basic skills in the German language.

Venues:

Vienna: Sunday, July 1st to Sunday, July 8th 2018 (7 days)
Wagrain (Salzburg): Sunday, July 8st to Sunday, July, 22nd 2018 (15 days, transfer from Vienna to Wagrain and back by bus, included in the price).

Board and lodging:
Vienna: A&T Holiday Hostel, Leibnizgasse 66, A-1100 Vienna (quietly situated near by the city-center)
3-bed rooms with shower & WC, free W-LAN, computers with internet are available in the lobby, coin-operated laundry and leisure facilities
Meals: Full board: buffet- breakfast – all you can eat, lunch and dinner are served in the hotel (all-day-excursion: pocket-lunch), all meals with 2 menus at choice, one of them vegetarian.

Wagrain: Jugendhotel Aicher GmbH, Wagrainerstraße 20, 5602 Wagrain

Shared rooms with shower and WC, lecture rooms, Internet, several welfare facilities (indoor & outdoor), infinity pool

Meals: Full board: 24 hours nonalcoholic drinks (Cola, soft drinks, juice) fresh fruit, coffee and tea at the meals, buffet breakfast – all you can eat, small lunch or packed lunch and 3 course dinners.

The German language course
Our teachers are exclusively mother tongue German speaking and well-trained in methodology in teaching German as a foreign language based on communicative teaching methods. These methods help you to learn quickly and gain confidence in your communicative skills while having fun at the same time. German will be the only language spoken in class. You will be actively involved all the time. Using new media, pair work and role play will simulate real life situations.
All teachers and tutors are also speaking English.
Learning does not end in the classroom. The intense social program with a wide range of cultural activities, sports and excursions are part of the course and included in your program fee. The activities will give you further opportunity for conversation and discussion with the German speaking tutors while you are enjoying exciting adventures holidays and help you to get a true taste of Austrian culture.

Each course is divided into grammar, vocabulary, reading & listening comprehension, writing, speaking and culture with an exam at the end of the course.

No previous German language study is required.

Class Sizes: 15 students (max.)

Teaching time:
Classes are taught for 40 units. One unit consists of 50 minutes lecture time. Courses meet from Mondays to Friday, from 9:00.am. to 1:00 p.m. Each course is divided into grammar, vocabulary, reading & listening comprehension, writing, speaking and intercultural training with an exam at the end of the course.

Certificates:
Students who successfully attend the classes receive an attendance certificate which contains the following information:

  • length of course (from – to)
  • total number of lessons attended
  • the language level at which the course was held

Special awards will be given to students who distinguished themselves by dedication and enthusiasm.

In case too many lessons have been missed (min. attendance of 80% is required) no certificate will be issued.

Activities:
Cultural activities: sight-seeing tours to the most famous sights in Vienna, Salzburg incl. Schloss Hellbrunn and to the Werfen Ice-caves and to the castle Hohenwerfen accompanied by local guides.

Sports in Wagrain in the afternoon and on the weekends (accompanied by certificated and experienced coaches and tutors), such as: Frisbee, excursion by cable car and hike, – rope course, slack line-park, archery, tobogganing, visit to the Liechtenstein gorge, rafting, mountain-biking, fun-pool, etc.

Evening program: Camp fire and barbecue

Payment
Price: EUR 1790,00 (booked & paid directly with DESC in Austria)

Included:
tuition fees, language course, teaching materials, certificates, sports and social program, excursions & visits, transfers, accommodation, full board (buffet breakfast, lunch & dinner), invitation letter & EVE- certificate, organization

Not included:

  • Entrance fees, theater tickets as well as all additional costs which are linked to the leisure-time activities are not included in the program.
  • The flight tickets, the transport in the home country, the fees for visa and documents requested in the home-country as well as the fees for the obligatory assurance.

Application dead-line: March 15th 2018

Down payment: EUR 1000,00 with the application, balance deadline for the remaining fee of EUR 790,00 on May 20th 2016 at the latest. In case of cancellation after May 20th the down payment is forfeited.

A travel-insurance is obligatory!

Please, transmit attached to your application a copy of your passport and the copy of your insurance policy valid for the European Union in order that we can issue the official invitation and the documents necessary for the visa.

Expenses not included in the program as well as costs of damages caused by participants are not covered by the organization.

DESC – Vienna Language Courses

DESC – Vienna Language Courses

DESC is the organizer of the language courses. However we gladly organize for you the accommodation, assist our partners in all subject related questions and accompany our guests at excursions, sightseeing and shopping tours.

Schedule: Courses are opened any time on request with min. 10 participants (maximum 15) per level at open-date. The minimum duration of the course is 3 weeks. Requests should arrive at least 1 month before the beginning of the course.

Communicative linguistic competence:

The German courses are available on 3 levels (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR, Strasbourg 2001)

  • Elementary German+: For participants with no or very little previous competence in the German language. This course leads up to Level A1.
  • Intermediate German+: For participants with some competence in the German language (A1+). This course leads up to Level A2.
  • Advanced German+: Participants need to have a good competence in German language. This course leads up to Level B1.

Teaching Approach:

Our teachers are exclusively mother tongue German speaking and well-trained in methodology in teaching German as a foreign language based on communicative teaching methods. These methods help you to learn quickly and to gain confidence in your communicative skills while having fun at the same time.

You will be actively involved all the time. Using new media, pair work and role play will simulate real life situations.

Learning does not end in the classroom. The tutorials offer intercultural training and the opportunity for conversation and discussion in German and are part of the German language courses.

Each course is divided into grammar, vocabulary, reading & listening comprehension, writing, speaking and intercultural training with an exam at the end of the course.

Students’ Placement:

The placement is operated via on-line test.

Teaching time:

German language classes are taught for 15 units + 2 tutorial units per week, equal 51 units. One unite consists of 50 minutes lecture time.

Courses meet from Mondays to Fridays, from 9:00 to 12.00 a.m. The tutorials are held in the afternoon.

Certificates:

Students who successfully attend one of our German Intensive Courses (min. attendance 80%) receive a certificate which contains the following information:

  • length of course (from – to)
  • total number of lessons attended
  • the language level at which the course was held
  • grading for each of the four language skills: speaking | writing | listening | reading*
  • an overall grade under the following assessment headings: 1 = very good | 2 = good | 3 = fair | 4 = satisfactory | 5 = non satisfactory

Students who followed the course with good results can take the ÖSD-exam (Österreichisches Sprachdiplom equivalent to the German diploma of the Goethe-Institute)

Visa:

For short periods study sojourn up to 180 days students we suggest to apply for a visa of the Type D. It is a Schengen – Visa which allows you also to travel around in the Schengen countries. There are also study –visa type C valid only for 90 days in Austria. However, entering in Austria e.g. on July 1st means you have to leave Austria already on September 28th. Students coming from the SAR Hong Kong are requested to contact the Austrian Consulate for visa –issues.

It is the student’s responsibility to apply and obtain a visa in time. Please, consider that the proceedings for the issue of the visa may take longer than expected. Don’t forget to make photocopies of all the documentation you present at the visa- application. DESC will furnish to the participants an invitation letter and all other documents to be issued in Austria.

DESC – University Preparation 2018

DESC is the organizer of the language courses. However we gladly organize for you the accommodation, assist our partners in all subject related questions and accompany our guests at excursions, sightseeing and shopping tours.

Objectives:

The courses are designed especially for students preparing for the entrance exams at Universities in German speaking countries. The 3 months course offers an intensive German Language training in order to upgrade the students’ linguistic proficiency from A 2 level to B2/C1 as required for most of the Universities in German speaking countries .Due to the Universities and to the courses of study the levels required vary from B2 to C2.

Furthermore lectures in the technical terminology as well as optional courses in English, Math and Physics are offered on request.

DESC is the organizer of the language courses. However we gladly organize for you the accommodation, assist our partners in all subject related questions and accompany our guests at excursions, sightseeing and shopping tours.

Schedule:

Courses are opened all over the year on request any time when a group of min. 10 participants apply. Short term courses (1 month or 2 months) are offered for students who start from higher levels than A2. Applications should arrive 3 months before the beginning of the course.

Classes will take place in classrooms furnished at the state of the art in the center of Vienna rent by DESC.

Class Sizes: 15 students (max.)

Teaching time:

Classes are taught for 288 units equivalent to 40 hours lectures plus 4 hours tutorials per 12 weeks. One unite consists of 50 minutes lecture time. Courses meet from Monday to Friday, from 9:00.am. to 1.00 p.m. Tutorials are conducted twice a week in the afternoon.

Certificates:

Due to the internal assessment students will be registered by DESC to the appropriate level of the International German Language Diploma. The fees for the examination varies from EUR 120,00 for B1 to EUR 140,00 (C1).

Moreover, all participants receive an attendance certificate which contains the following information:

  • length of course (from – to)
  • total number of lessons attended
  • the language level at which the course was held
  • grading for each of the four language skills: speaking | writing | listening | reading*
  • an overall grade under the following assessment headings: 1 = very good | 2 = good | 3 = fair 4= satisfactory | 5 = non satisfactory

The Austrian Secondary Colleges are experienced in international cooperation and gladly offer hospitality for trainees from abroad. English as teaching language is usually offered in the syllabus.
  3. Organization for bachelor- and master studies in Austrian universities
    DESC indicates to interested students appropriate Universities courses for their study goals. DESC organizes the application formalities and the entrance exams, provides the accommodation and comprehensive individual support during their stay.
    Attention: The on-line application starts in most of the Universities in the beginning of March. Therefore the preparation (choice of the proper study course, documents, etc.) should start in January at the latest.
  4. Study visits at Viennese Music Schools
    Music studies and Master Classes are organized in collaboration with the “Vienna Conservatorium with public status”. DESC organizes the application formalities and the entrance exams, provides the accommodation and comprehensive individual support during your stay.
    Attention: Entrance exams and auditions are held already in January 2018.
  5. Advanced training for young scientists, science teachers and experts in energy issues
    The courses are individually designed by DESC and/or in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center –Renewable Energy Systems” or with the Atominstitut of the Vienna University of Technology.
